Common Questions About Dental Exams

How long does a dental exam and cleaning take?

Depending on the condition of your teeth, your first appointment may take as long as 90 minutes. Typically most routine cleanings only need an hour of your time. Our friendly staff will happily give you more information when you schedule your appointment.

Will a professional cleaning hurt?

Routine dental cleaning shouldn't cause any pain. However, there are a few factors to consider, ranging from the condition of your gums, tooth decay, or if you have a lot of tartar and plaque buildup. If that's the case, you may have some sensitivity during the cleaning. Our staff is gentle and caring and takes note of your condition before the process begins. We do our best to ensure your comfort.

Can a dental cleaning whiten my teeth?

While a dental cleaning undoubtedly helps your teeth look brighter, a professional teeth whitening treatment would be more beneficial.

Can I remove the tartar myself?

If you want to remove plaque and prevent tartar buildup, brush your teeth twice daily with fluoride toothpaste. Daily flossing also is an essential practice for the best results. However, professional cleaning may be required if there is extensive tartar buildup.

When should I bring my child in to have their first dental cleaning?

We recommend bringing your child in before their first birthday, typically around the time they start teething. We go the extra mile to help kids have a positive experience at the dentist! We want to help establish lifelong dental health habits from a very young age.
